Welcome to Essie's Bits and Bows. My name is Rowena and I'm one half or should I say one third of Essie's Bits and Bows.
My husband Sammy and I hand make all our products and the final third is our daughter, Essie.
A few years back Essie had very beautiful, but very short hair. So knowing the power of accessories, working where I did, I loved to buy bows for her.
However, I struggled to get beautiful, and more importantly tasteful bows that weren't expensive or garish. Eh voila, there came the idea.
I first started by making bows with grosgrain ribbon or remnants of ribbon from the most wonderful Parisienne ribbon shop that my friend Camille would bring back to me. Then I started to sew again, a forgotten skill my grandmother had taught me. Then came the Liberty fabric. I had always been a bit obsessed by Liberty, the store, the fabrics-so it made sense to use the Tana Lawn to make bows for Ess.
We did what we called the nursery test..... If the bow stayed in and survived a day at nursery that was a pass. We then starting sourcing beautiful fabrics and that was the birth of Essie's Bits and Bows. Sammy joined in this mission and this became our dual project!
We are proud that we are family business, sourcing beautiful fabrics and ribbons and hand-making our bows and headbands. Our bows are none snag and don't rip out the hair as they are lined with ribbon, keeping in place in even the most fine hair. Our headbands aren't tight, quite the contrary they are flexible and comfortable.
We love what we do and are passionate about our products. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
